She picked the small town of Sweet Water Gulch (pop. about 1,000) to start because of its history during the Gold Rush. As is her usual practice, Paige befriends townspeople to gather local history for her story. And as usual as well she starts to pick up vibes about something strange going on and can't help digging for information. In the meantime one of the well-loved business owners has gone missing. I look forward to them not just for the mystery itself but also for a visit to a different area of the US. This is an easy, fast read that combines a light mystery with interesting history about the California gold rush. Ms. Garner's travel writing expertise also shines through with descriptions of the settings that make you feel like you are there. I can't wait to see where Paige visits next. The action didn't flow as well and the interaction between Jake and Paige didn't seem the same. It was a little forced, but it was still a good read and I enjoyed it.
